Wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha is all set to reunite with the Bengal cricket team ahead of the domestic season. The seasoned veteran had parted ways with the team before the start of the 2022-23 domestic season following heated exchanges with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). After spending the last season with Tripura as mentor, Saha has expressed his interest to return to Bengal to help the team in any capacity.

Saha to return to Bengal

Speaking to reporters at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Saha categorically stated that he will not talk about issues from the past and that he is willing to move on. He threw his hat in the ring for the position of a coach, noting that he won’t be of much help as administrator since he was a cricketer.

But I am open to help Bengal in any capacity possible. Since I am a cricketer, I would be better off helping Bengal in coaching instead of any administrative role,” Saha said.

No retirement on cards for Saha

The keeper-batter, who has been out of India’s Test side for quite some time now, stated that he had no plans of retiring at the moment. Saha said that he will make himself available for red-ball, white-ball, T20 and IPL cricket, adding that he will manage his workload with one eye on his age.

When I will retire, I will leave all forms and all formats of cricket, but right now, I am focused on red-ball cricket, white-ball cricket, the IPL, and I’m available for everything,” Saha added.

What happens to Abhishek Porel?

The potential return of Saha to the Bengal team will put Abhishek Porel’s spot in danger. With only one wicketkeeper spot up for grabs, it remains to be seen if Bengal will go with the 37-year-old veteran or the youngster. Saha, however, maintained that he will continue to mentor Porel as he had done so before.

Even before I left Bengal, I was grooming Abishek from the sidelines, and that will continue,” Saha said.
