Pakistan Cricket Team became the fourth team under the South African’s guidance to knocked out without reaching either the semis or finals. In fact, 3 teams coached by Kirsten has been knocked out in Super 8s of the ICC T20 World Cup.

Gary Kirsten is an incredible coach. But his form remains bleak in the T20 World Cups. Back in 2011, under his guidance, the Indian Cricket Team lifted the ODI World Cup after a span of 28 years. Interestingly, in the 2009 and 2010 T20 World Cups, the same Indian team got knocked out in the Super 8 stage.

Gary Kirsten’s T20 World Cup jinx

India were knocked out twice in Super 8s of the T20 World Cup. Both the times it was under South African head coach Gary Kirsten back in 2009 and 2010.

Similarly the Proteas took the 2011 World Cup winning coach under their belt. But South Africa too faired a similar result like India. The Proteas squad was again knocked out in the Super 8s.

And finally, came Pakistan’s turn. Before the start of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, the Men in Green appointed Kirsten who was the head coach of IPL side Gujarat Titans. But the Babar Azam side faired an even worse fate. The Pakistan Cricket Team failed to make it to the Super 8s of the T20 World Cup after being eliminated from the group stage of the tournament.
