Now that Round 1 of the Ranji Trophy is all done and dusted, out of 16 games, 15 concluded successfully. On one hand, the Irani Cup winners and last Ranji Trophy champions, Mumbai, lost to Baroda by 84 runs. Meanwhile, emerging Nagaland team, showcased their class by defeating Arunachal Pradesh by a massive margin.
Also, several players came out as big performers. Abhimanyu Easwaran took the spotlight with his unbeaten century against Uttar Pradesh, while Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is fighting for his place in India’s Test squad, made a notable impact as the string of Test matches approaches, especially with the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on the horizon.

However, some big names, such as Shreyas Iyer and Ajinkya Rahane, struggled due to poor batting form. Also, one more Mumbai batter, Prithvi Shaw, who is eager to get his India cap back, had a tough outing, scoring just 7 and 12 against Baroda.
